Like most people that have email addresses, I get a bunch of junk emails every day – nothing exciting there. Before I started hosting my own email server I found these super annoying and put a lot of work in to filtering them out – but now they work as a really helpful health check.
This is a pretty typical day for my junk folder.
I had to configure my spam filtering to allow these through and store them in a dedicated folder instead of deleting them on the spot. These are such obvious spam that they would typically be hard rejected.
Typically I get a couple per hour during the day, and if I don’t – something has probably gone wrong.
